I have been a professional most of my adult life and it has not been easy putting a hold on my career. The Different Costs of Motherhood in New York Times’ Economix explores how the wage and career consequences of motherhood differ by skill and timing, stating that women with more skills pay a higher wage penalty for parenthood than women of lower skill levels. Translation: I’m on my way to giving up a huge percentage of my potential lifetime earning.
Women have come a long way, but it is still never easy when it comes to balancing career and family. What I hope to do is to offset some of that wage loss by tackling some interesting projects that I’m passionate about and allow me to feel more balanced personally and professionally.
As women, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be perfect at everything we do and sometimes we forget about ourselves. So take a moment for yourself, you are doing just fine!
