9 Ways To Get In Shape This Summer Without Breaking the Bank

We’re close to the official start of summer which only means one thing: less clothing. It is harder to hide those extra pounds under a big sweater when it is 80 degrees out. It also just feels great to be generally healthier in the summer.

Of course it’s easier to get outside and just work out when it’s warmer, but we all need a little help sometimes. Plus it doesn’t hurt to save a few bucks too. Here are some ways you can work out this summer without breaking the bank.

Running

Running is really the cheapest and easiest option for working out. You can do it anywhere, need limited equipment and it’s an awesome way to get in shape. Win, win, win. Need help getting started? Even if you’re the the earliest of beginners, it’s possible to get moving. Start with some tips here and here.

YogaGlo.com

Not sure you are ready to do downward dog in front of a crowd and pay for it? You’re in luck. YogaGlo.com has 2,000 yoga classes you can take on your computer, TV, or tablet. In addition to this site, there are thousands of other sites and blogs you can get free yoga tips and instruction from.

Stream it

Speaking of online video classes, YouTube videos and free online fitness websites such as Tone It Up and Blogilates offer numerous resources to help you learn exercises by yourself. You can even invite your friends over and hold your own private class virtually for free!

Exercise at work

Greatist.com has an awesome list of exercises you can do in your cubicle or office (to an extent). It’s totally free, and studies have shown that exercise during the work day enhances productivity (plus, a little activity at work may prevent you from falling asleep!)

Deal sites

Take advantage of all those deals you see in your inbox! Daily deal sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial offer great discounts on workout packages. These packages also offer the added benefit of not committing to a yearly membership with a specific gym.

Pump iron

Time to get those arms in shape. Go buy a pair of dumbbells at a workout store or Bed, Bath & Beyond, look up some weight-lifting moves on the internet, and pump iron!

Canoe it up

Rowing is the new spinning so you may as well hop on the trend (sort of). Grab a friend, rent a canoe or a kayak, and have a little adventure.

Sworkit

This may sound like some type of odd Disney character, but it’s actually a really awesome app that creates customized workouts for you in a time frame that works for your lifestyle. You don’t even need to go outside, and some of the workouts only take seven minutes!
